Researching adult keywords is not like doing keyword research for a recipe blog or a SaaS company. Google Keyword Planner shows zero data for most adult terms. Ahrefs and Semrush give you partial data. And the intent behind a search like “sex” is so broad that it is commercially useless. Adult SEO does have one big advantage over mainstream SEO, though, and that is volume. Adult content accounts for roughly one-fifth of all internet searches worldwide.
This guide walks through a full workflow for finding adult keywords, starting with seed terms and ending with a segmented master list. It also compares the tools worth using, shows how to sort keywords by intent, and covers the mistakes that cost adult site owners months of work on the wrong terms.
Why Adult Keyword Research Is Different

1. Most tools show zero or suppressed data
Google Keyword Planner blocks volume data for most adult keywords and sexually explicit terms. Even when a term does show data (“adult dating site”, for example), the numbers are often heavily modelled and less reliable than they are for mainstream terms. Semrush and Ahrefs cover more, but they still suppress the most explicit queries.
In practice, that means you cannot rely on a single tool. You have to triangulate between several sources, and you have to know which signals point to real demand when search volume reads “0” or “<10”.
2. Intent is highly niche-specific
On its own, the word “adult” is almost meaningless as a target. Segment your adult keywords by:
- Content type (cam, tube, dating, escort, toy store, subscription, and so on)
- Intent tier (informational, transactional, or navigational)
- Buyer persona (adult site owner or operator vs. consumer of adult content)
- Geographic market (US terms differ significantly from UK, DE, or LATAM terms)
3. The SEO-specific vs. consumer-facing keyword split
If you run an adult SEO agency or consultancy, the adult SEO keywords you target are very different from the ones your clients’ sites go after. Your audience is adult website owners and operators looking for professional SEO help, so your terms look like “adult seo agency”, “casino seo services,” and “escort seo”. The framework in this guide works for both audiences. Just keep the distinction clear when you build your own list of adult keywords.
The Adult Keyword Research Workflow

Step 1: Define Your Niche Matrix
Before you open any tool, map your content or service on two axes: what you offer and who you are targeting. For an adult website, that might look like this:
| Your Site Type | Primary Buyer/User | Core Keyword Themes |
| Cam site | Adult consumers | Live cam, cam girls, adult webcam, free cams + niche variations |
| Adult dating site | Adult consumers | Hookup site, adult dating, fuck buddies + geo-modifiers |
| Escort directory | Adult consumers | Escorts near me, escort agency, independent escorts + city |
| Adult toy store | Adult consumers + gift-buyers | Sex toys, vibrators, dildos, couples toys + brand/product terms |
| OnlyFans creator | Adult consumers | OnlyFans + creator name/niche + location |
| Adult SEO agency | Adult site operators | Adult seo, casino seo, escort seo, adult web design + service modifiers |
Step 2: Generate Seed Terms
Seed terms are the starting points you build your full list of adult keywords from. Pull them from four places:
- Your own site. List every service, product, or content category you offer.
- Your clients’ or users’ language. How does your target audience describe what they want? Forums, Reddit threads, and review sites are gold mines for natural language.
- Competitor analysis. Which terms are your ranking competitors targeting? Run Ahrefs Site Explorer or Semrush Domain Overview on 3 to 5 of them.
- Google autocomplete. Search your core terms and screenshot the suggestions, because they reflect real search behaviour.
Step 3: Use Google Search Console First
If your site already gets traffic, GSC is the best source of adult keywords you have, and it is free. It shows exactly which queries bring impressions and clicks to your pages, including many “privacy-safe” long-tail terms that paid tools do not surface.
In GSC, go to Search Results and filter by Page to see which queries each page already ranks for. Look for:
- Queries with high impressions and few clicks. These are strong candidates for a better title and meta description.
- Queries at position 11 to 20. They sit just off page 1, and a strong content refresh can push them onto it.
- Queries you did not know you ranked for. This is latent demand you can build on with targeted content.
Pro tip: Sort the GSC query report by Impressions, descending, and cross-reference it with Position. Any query with 500+ impressions at position 11 to 25 is a priority optimisation candidate. You have already proven relevance, so the job now is to improve the page.
Step 4: Run Competitor Gap Analysis
In Ahrefs, open Site Explorer > Competing Domains to find the sites that rank for the same keywords you do. Then use Content Gap to see which of their top keywords you are not ranking for. Semrush calls its version the Keyword Gap tool.
For adult SEO in particular, look beyond your direct competitors. Analyse the pages that rank for your target terms right now. They may be informational blog posts, forum threads, or aggregator sites, and not only agency sites like yours. Seeing the whole field tells you what type of content Google rewards for that query.
Step 5: Use Adult-Specific Traffic Platforms as Keyword Sources
TrafficJunky and ExoClick both give advertisers their own keyword targeting tools. Even if you are not running paid campaigns, you can use them to find high-volume adult keywords, including the consumer-side keywords for porn and cam content that Google’s tools hide:
- TrafficJunky’s keyword targeting interface shows terms with real traffic volume on adult properties. That makes it useful for spotting demand that Google tools suppress.
- ExoClick’s geo-segmented keyword data is especially good for finding European market demand that English-language SEO tools undercount.
Step 6: Mine Reddit and Forums for Natural Language
r/onlyfansadvice, r/sexwork, r/adultbusiness, r/webmaster, r/SEO, and the niche-specific subreddits show you how your target audience describes its problems. Search them for:
- Questions about the service you offer (“how do I find a good adult SEO agency?”).
- Comparisons of tools or providers (“ExoClick vs TrafficJunky which is better?”).
- Complaints about existing solutions, which reveal unmet demand you can target with content.
Copy the natural-language phrases from these posts into your seed term list. Long-tail variations built from real user language often have lower competition and higher conversion intent than head terms.

| Google Search Console | High (your site’s own data only) | Free | Finding existing ranking opportunities & latent demand |
| Ahrefs | Moderate (suppresses most explicit terms) | $129-449/mo | Competitor analysis, content gap, backlink data |
| Semrush | Moderate (similar to Ahrefs) | $139-499/mo | Keyword gap, site audits, position tracking |
| Mangools (KWFinder) | Moderate | $29-79/mo | Budget option for long-tail research; SERP analysis |

Categorising Your Keywords: The Adult SEO Framework

By Search Intent
Tag each of your adult keywords with an intent. Intent decides what kind of content you create and which page it belongs on.
| Intent | Description | Examples | Content Type |
| Transactional | User is ready to buy, hire, or sign up | “adult seo packages”, “hire escort seo agency”, “buy adult backlinks” | Service/product pages with strong CTA |
| Informational | User wants to learn | “how to do adult seo”, “adult keywords guide”, “what is escort seo” | Blog posts, guides, FAQs |
| Navigational | User is looking for a specific brand or site | “adultseomaven”, “pornhub seo” | Homepage, branded pages |
| Commercial investigation | User is researching before buying | “best adult seo agency”, “adult seo company reviews” | Comparison posts, case studies, reviews |
By Niche Segment
Group your adult keywords by sub-vertical too. This stops a single page from trying to rank for incompatible intents, and it gives you a topical cluster structure to build out:
- Adult SEO head cluster: adult seo, adult seo agency, adult seo services, adult seo company, adult seo packages
- Casino / iGaming cluster: casino seo, igaming seo, gambling seo, casino seo agency, sports betting seo
- OnlyFans / creator cluster: onlyfans seo, onlyfans marketing agency, onlyfans promotion service
- Escort cluster: escort seo, escort seo agency, seo for escorts, escort directory seo
- Design/development cluster: adult web design, adult website design, adult web development
- Link building cluster: adult backlinks, adult link building, buy adult backlinks
By Keyword Difficulty and Volume
Use a priority matrix to decide which keywords to go after first:
| Category | KD Range | Volume Range | Action |
| Quick wins | KD 0-15 | Any | Prioritise. High chance of ranking with a well-optimised page |
| Core targets | KD 16-30 | High (100+/mo) | Build dedicated service/pillar pages with strong internal links |
| Stretch goals | KD 31-50 | High | Target via link building + strong content; 6-12 month horizon |
| Decline (for now) | KD 50+ | Any | Not worth attacking without domain authority uplift first |

Common Adult Keyword Research Mistakes

Mistake 1: Chasing explicit head terms
“Sex”, “porn” and “xxx” have astronomical volume, but they serve consumer intent that has nothing to do with adult business services or commercial adult SEO. Tube sites and platforms with billions of backlinks dominate them too. Never target these terms unless your business is a consumer tube site. Even then, start your keywords for porn content in one specific sub-niche and build topical depth there first.
Mistake 2: Ignoring commercial-intent modifiers
There is a huge gap in conversion intent between “adult seo” (informational, ambiguous), “adult seo agency” (commercial), and “adult seo packages” (transactional). Always build your list of adult keywords around the full range of modifiers: + agency, + services, + company, + cost, + pricing, + near me, + UK/US/AU.
Mistake 3: One page for the whole cluster
One page cannot rank for “casino seo”, “escort seo,” and “adult web design” with equal authority. Each commercial cluster needs its own dedicated service page. The homepage can support the broadest head terms, and everything else needs a dedicated URL.
Mistake 4: Ignoring GSC data
Many adult site owners put all their attention on paid keyword tools and skip the free, high-quality signal in GSC. If you have any organic traffic at all, GSC shows the queries behind it, suppressed ones included. You have already proven relevance for that demand, which makes it your highest-leverage optimisation data.
Mistake 5: Targeting zero-volume terms as if they have no demand
Google suppresses volume data on many adult keywords, including escort-related queries and some explicit terms. A zero in a tool does not mean zero searches. It means the tool does not report the number. Where paid tools show nothing, use GSC impressions as your demand signal. If GSC shows 1,000 impressions for a query, the demand is real.
Next Steps
Once your list of adult keywords is built and categorised, map each cluster to the right page on your site. Service pages own commercial intent and blog posts own informational intent. No two pages should compete for the same primary term.
